Tent Accessories To Make Your Camping Holiday More Enjoyable

by John Spoke

We all know that camping is enjoying a resurgence in popularity at the minute, probably due more to the economy than anything else, but nevertheless suppliers of all things camping orientated are seeing a much welcome boost is takings. This is in no small part due to the fact that today's campers, as opposed to a few decades ago, aren't quite into the 'take it as it comes, back to basics' lifestyle associated with camping.

The biggest increase in sales has been in the tent accessories sector, which covers everything from lights, to groundsheets to poles. Some of these are obviously more important than others, while some seem to belong in the realms of 'we probably will never need it but we'll get a couple just in case'. It is easy to get carried away when you go shopping for camping gear, but also very easy to prioritise.

For example, a light is more or less a necessity when it comes to tent accessories, whereas pole repair sleeves are something that you can buy as and when you need it. An awning is handy for adding extra space and, depending on the type of tent you have, a temperature moderator could also be a good buy. These lie over the top of our tent to stop it getting too hot inside, invaluable if you are out for the day and don't want to come back to a sauna!

Other tent accessories that are very popular are tent repair kits, groundsheet protectors and lightweight stools. They all have a purpose, and are worth having if you have a vehicle to carry around your camping gear. If you are walking or cycling, just have a repair kit with you, or some inflatable cushions to sit on which are virtually weightless as are completely flat when the air is let out of them.

Remember, when you get to the campsite and are unpacking and setting everything up, and are looking around at your fellow campers, there is no prize for the couple or family weighed down by the most equipment. They may look smug and self-satisfied and prepared for every eventuality, but you can bet your bottom dollar that 99% of it will be repacked unused at the end of their holiday.

It is well worth the time logging onto the internet, or popping into a store, and making a list of the tent accessories that will you actually use rather than buy just in case. By going about it in this much more sensible way, you won't be stressed out by having so much to pack and remember and can relax in the knowledge that all you have with you are things to improve your holiday, not be a nuisance.

Camping, above all else, should be a lot of fun. It isn't like when you arrive at a hotel and are disappointed, you can up tent so to speak and move elsewhere. It is this consummate freedom that is so appealing, so don't spoil it by being weighed down by everything AND the kitchen sink.
